Minor and major crimes in Mafia Syndicate (AI)
In Mafia Syndicate, small and major crimes are handled through an AI-powered system. Instead of selecting a fixed action with a set result, mafiosi now interact with AI to generate a unique response and outcome.
This system adds variation and unpredictability to the way crimes are executed, and it directly impacts how you earn income in the game.
How Ai works (and might be the solution for Indie Devs)
- When committing a crime, you receive an in-game call
- You’re presented with a prompt or question
- Your input is processed using AI
- You receive an instant and unique outcome based on that interaction
This system currently applies to:
- Small Crimes
- Major Crimes
Each job is tied to a fixed heat cost and provides XP and money based on the outcome.
Why it’s different
Unlike traditional text-based mafia games where crime outcomes are fully scripted and repeatable, Mafia Syndicate uses AI to introduce dynamic variation in how crimes are committed. This makes earning money and XP feel more real — and more dangerous.
System goals via AI
The AI crime system helps us:
- Reduce grind-based repetition
- Make crimes feel like choices, not buttons
- Keep gameplay immersive and story-driven
What it doesn’t do (Yet)
To be transparent:
- AI crime outcomes do not yet influence your larger story or legacy
- It is not used for syndicates, rackets, or territory systems at this time
- There are no branching crime trees — each crime is processed independently
This system is part of our ongoing effort to build realism and immersion, not complexity for its own sake.
Heat cost for crimes
Every crime you commit costs heat, which is a resource used to limit action frequency and balance the in-game economy.
- Small Crimes cost 2 heat
- Major Crimes cost 4 heat
Your heat meter regenerates over time, so mafiosi must plan their actions carefully. If you run out of heat, you’ll need to wait or use limited items to restore it. Heat ensures no one can spam their way to the top — every move should be calculated.
